We are lucky to be surrounded by plenty of lush olive groves, producing a wide variety of species particularly well adapted to the Mediterranean climate and soil. We produce our very own “golden nectar” thanks to our 48 olive trees…

Restaurants

As a B&B in Fayence we’re very lucky to have an excellent choice of restaurants locally, catering for most budgets and palettes. We strongly recommend booking in advance as they do get booked up very quickly, particularly in peak-season. We have regular tables at several of them and will happily book on your behalf, simply ask – that’s what we’re about at Le Mas des Romarins – understated luxury and attention to detail.

Les deux rocs

This is one of our local favourites, a real treat.
Julie and Nicolas offer a warm welcome and their chef Julien combines the best, freshest seasonal produce from local artisan producers and farmers.  The food is amazing as is the service; the setting under the two huge plane trees on a balmy summer evening next to the fountain really is hard to beat locally.  The menu changes regularly and offers delightful twists and surprise takes on traditional Provencal cuisine. It gets a big thumbs up from us. We’d be happy to book a table for you !

Le France

Le France offers a very warm welcome from Jean and Sylvie, a great location right in the centre of town, cosy in the winter with a nice terrace in the summer, it’s another great choice for really good quality food, using great produce from local farmers and artisans with a blackboard menu that evolves daily and weekly to reflect the seasons.

Another favourite which we don’t get to as often as would like !

1 Gd Rue du Château, 83440 Fayence – 04 94 76 00 14

Le Moulin de la Camandoule

This authentic old olive press epitomises the charm of a Provencal lifestyle at the foot of the medieval village of Fayence. Philippe Choissy, the chef here for 25 years, offers you a refined and sophisticated style of Provençal cuisine using the best local and fresh produce. Whether you choose the terrace, nestled amongst trees and flowers, or our inside dining room, huddled in a rustic and warm décor you can indulge yourselves with the pleasures if Provençal dining. Open daily except Wednesdays and Thursday lunch time.

L’Auberge Fleurie

Our local seafood restaurant offering good value for money and a decent choice of fresh seafood delivered daily and steaks, closed Mondays the Auberge is situated just by the roundabout before you climb up into the village.

L’Auberge Fleurie offers regional, seasonal seafood dishes to be enjoyed on the lovely terrace, in the shade surrounded by flowers.

Rdpt de la Gare, 83440 Fayence – 04 94 84 76 64

La Farigoulette

Another great local restaurant, situated right at the top of the village underneath the “Mirador” with exceptional views out over the Var countryside.  Open Mondays, which is often a challenging day to find a table, “La Farigoulette” actually means “Thyme” in Provençal.  So it comes as no surprise that chef Hervé Quesnel makes excellent use of seasonal, local produce to offer a refined choice of generous dishes for a sophisticatedly simple menu and a very warm welcome. We love it here, come and try it for yourselves.

Vineyards

The Var boasts some of the best whites and Rosés in France, whilst in and around Fayence itself we are lucky to have an excellent choice of great local winegrowers and their wines. We will happily book a visit and tasting for you, it’s a great way to spend the day.

Château des Selves

Basking on our local rocky slopes bathed in sun, Chateau des Selves is the culmination of generations of tireless labour by the Christine family. Thanks to its exposure, the geological structure of the soil and its location, it benefits from the AOP Cotes de Provence. Their reds use Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot varieties, the whites are made using the Rolle variety and their rosés use Grenache, Rolle, Cinsault and Syrah.  All are characterful and, we think, exceptional.  We choose to offer Château des Selves to guests at Le Mas des Romarins.  The lovely Mylène also offers walking tours of the domaine.

Val d’Iris

Located in Seillans, one of the prettiest villages in Provence, the Val d’Iris owes its name to an ancient iris plantation for the Grasse perfumery. In 1999, Anne Dor bought this small area to begin her adventure in viticulture.  In this pretty little valley, Anne produces typical wines of Côtes de Provence, enhanced by the terroir and the sun her wines are full of light and beautiful structure.

“I like solid reds, delicate rosés
and round, powerful whites.
I wait for you to taste them.”

– Anne Dor

La Combe de Porre, 83440 Seillans – 04 94 76 97 66

Domaine Grande Bastide

To be found just below the village of Tourrettes the Domaine Grande Bastide is a smallholding of some 70 acres producing elegant wines for a refined palette. The domaine opened in 2001 and offers and interesting mix of wines marrying the traditional Provence varietals (Syrah, Grenache, Cinsault…) with those far less typical of the region (Cabernet, Merlot, Chardonnay or even Muscat).  As well as a tasting room for its own production, the winery also boasts a selection of wines from the Côtes du Rhône, high quality champagnes and fine meats and delicatessen.

La route des vins de Provence

Provence is world-renowned for its great wines – most notably for its rosés which make up 40% of the French national production, our terroirs include some 8 AOCs (Appelations d’Origine Contrôlée) stretching from the Bouches-du-Rhône to the Var, right across to the Alpes-Maritimes.

Wineries are commonplace in the Region with several wine routes available, making it pleasantly easy to discover this part of France’s rich heritage.  Whether it’s rosé, white or red that tickles your palette there’s a multitude to be tasted and savoured, whilst taking in the marvels of the Provençal countryside and its typical medieval villages.

Amongst more than 15 different Provençal wine routes to choose from, the route Côte d’Azur passes right through Fayence and its surroundings, so your stay at the Mas des Romarins offers you the perfect opportunity to discover all our local wines have to offer.  There are four stop-off points spread over 71km taking just over two hours to cover – what better way to throw yourselves into the flavours and smells of the Mediterranean are of Provence.

Olive groves and oils

We are lucky to be surrounded by plenty of lush olive groves, producing a wide variety of species particularly well adapted to the Mediterranean climate and soil. We produce our very own “golden nectar” thanks to our 48 olive trees, which we make available to guests at Le Mas des Romarins as part of our offering as a quality B&B. In addition to our own oil, there are several local producers, some of whom have award-winning oils and associated products, well worth a visit.

Château des Selves

The olive grove at the Domaine des Selves comprises around 1000 olive trees offering a fruity, green olive oil.  Why not book a tasting and try amongst six single variety olive oils made from different types of olive : Araban, Picholine, Amygdalolia, Bouteillan, Cailletier, Cayet Roux…

Fayence market

Open until 12.30pm it offers a great range of artisan foods and local produce, as well as clothes, Provencal gifts and wares from olive wood pestle and mortars to embroidered linens and tablecloths, with jewellery and great fruit and veg.

Artisan producers will happily let you taste their wares before buying and you’re pretty much guaranteed a warm welcome and large smile.

Our 9 villages

Fayence and its surrounding area is made up of 9 medieval villages full of charm, perched up on the surrounding hills that offer a typical Provençal way of life, as well as a rich cultural and agricultural heritage: Bagnols-en-Forêt, Callian, Fayence, Mons, Montauroux, Saint-Paul-en-Forêt, Seillans, Tanneron and Tourrettes.

From castles and churches, to chapels, paved streets, amazing vistas and on to small town squares… the secret beauty of this part of Provence unveils itself as you wander from village to village; be it on a hill, amongst mighty oak forests or sat atop of hillside fields of mimosa and olive tree plantations. Fayence and its surrounding villages offer a multitude of ways to take advantage of all that Provence has to offer – something very close to our hearts at the Mas des Romarins.

The soap factory in Seillans : L’Atelier du Savon

At the Mas des Romarins we take very seriously our impact on the environment and aim to use locally sourced and eco-friendly products where we can, values we share with Karine and Frédéric, founder of the brand Aqui d’Aïa and owners of the hand-made soap factory  Atelier du Savon – Maître Savonitto.

They strive towards a more human approach to business with a family spirit permeating their “atelier” in Seillans (Brovés).  A visit opens up a world of colour and scents typical of the South of France. The product range – essentially solid soaps – are moulded and embossed on-site, with a strong emphasis on zero-waste using recycled materials wherever possible. The ingredients used are biodegradable and certified and traceable where possible.  Recipes are naturally simple with locally-sourced ingredients.

Two worlds are offered by the soap factory :

Maître Savonitto. Traditional, with a flavour of old-style chemists or apothecary where natural ingredients with their health benefits are honoured across the product range; solid and liquid soaps, candles, detergents for laundry and the home… The range offers a balanced mix between innovation with the authenticity of recipes Grandma might have made, coupled with an olfactory journey across the traditional Provence of the famous author Pagnol. Some ranges include essential oils from Provence, asses milk from the Pyrenees and Brittany, and some of the wooden presentation boxes from the Jura…

The new brand developed and launched by Karine and Frédéric is Aqui D’Aïa – a Provençal expression meaning “from here and elsewhere”. With its roots still firmly anchored in the heart of Provence, its design is a little more contemporary and hip, very much in line with our own spirit of “Farniente d’épicure” which characterises a stay at the Mas des Romarins.

The new brand has at its heart, many of the same core values as Maître Savonitto coupled with a clever sensorial mix – an ode to Provence, its sunshine, its odours, its countryside, its light and heat… It takes you on a journey across Provence and all of her moods.

A visit is a must ! If you can’t get there just yet, you can shop online on their site.
